President Duterte declares CPP-NPA as terrorist groups

President Duterte declares CPP-NPA as terrorist groups

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday has declared the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) as a terror organization.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said, "It was a proclamation declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army as a designated identified terrorist organization under RA 10168, the Human Security Act,".

He also added,  Duterte also ordered Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to immediately file a petition at the Manila Regional Trial Court to classify the CPP-NPA as a terrorist group under the Human Security Act.

Earlier, he had declared that his administration would no longer pursue peace talks with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

When Duterte first announced his plan to label the NPA a terror organization, some senators expressed support. They said it was long overdue because the NPA had been on the terror list of the United States since 2002.
